What type of music is traditionally used alongside ballet?

Any help will be much appreciated!

What type of music is traditionally used alongside ballet?opera score

classical music is most often used alongside classical ballet. This is most common in upscale danc academies that have a strong emphasis on tradition. However, some schools use less classical pieces and more modern (although still slower in tempo) music for their youth. I have seen some schools use disney songs such as "reflection" from Mulan, and "part of that world" for The Little Mermaid.

Of course, as there are now many different styleas all rooted in ballet, the music chages quite darastically from each variation.

Lyrical dances are often danced to modern or alternative songs that can bring forth emotion and feeling from withing the dancer. Some are "sad" or even "angry" lyricals and are danced to a piece that would suite the mood. othe5rs are uplifting and inspirational and likewise, a fitting song would be used.

For the most part, classical masterpieces are used for ballet, as most understand it to be... pink, frilly, tu-tus and ballet slippers, or pointe shoes. A perfect example would be swan lake or the nutcracker. these two are classical ballet in its truest form and the music is traditional ballet music.

Hope this helps!!

classical
I'm not sure I understand your question, but, here goes. In a ballet class, the music to accompany excersises is generally classical since that is the music style most ballet is made on.Sice the ballet and classical music sort of "grew up together",it's a natural fit.Hope that answers your question!

TL
it depends on the ballet. classical ballets use classical music that was created many many years ago by famous composers. we use this type of music for ballets such as the nutcracker, giselle, dracula, swan lake, and the many others that u have probly heard of. these ballets are the ones that u probly c ur local companies performing and look like what u think of when u think of ballet.

some newer ballets use classical music that was just made recently by new composers. these ballets will still probably look like a typical ballet. local ballets perform these as well.

some ballets called modern ballets can even be performed to neo-modern types of music and music that may even contain lyrics. these ballets usually do not have tutus but leotards and flowing costumes.

hope i helped!
classical music - always in 4/4 time.
Classical music, usually piano, is used in class. During performances, that music is usually a whole orchestra, not just piano.
It actually depends on how you're using the word "traditionally." If you're asking about "way back when," then everyone else is correct: classical ballet used classical music. However, if you actually mean what music is TYPICALLY heard in the programs of today's ballet companies, then it can be quite a range. Serge Diaghilev enlisted Igor Stravinsky to compose several works for his Ballets Russes and that music would be considered "modern" music. Balanchine used John Philip Sousa's marches for his "Stars and Stripes" ballet. And the New York City Ballet has danced to Lar Lubovitch's "Rhapsody in Blue" by George Gershwin, which is jazz music.

It is almost unheard of these days for a ballet company to only perform works that are set to classical music.
