Do you have to be strong to do ballet? Your Opinion?

My co-worker asked me this about 1,000 times today, but I didn't really have an answer.

Can you give some details as to why you think so?

Thanks

My question is why is your co-worker asking you that question 1,000 time a day? That's kinda weird, but anyway if you are asking if you have to be a strong person in order to learn ballet the answer is no. Through the process of learning ballet a person will become a lot stronger though. When most people think of the word strong they think of being able to lift some enormous amount of weights and that just isn't the case in ballet ( unless you are talking about male ballet dancers but even then they aren't lifting 200lbs. worth of ballerina). A female ballet dancer will develop strong muscles in their legs but those muscles are more than just strong...they are flexible.

Yes you must be strong because you have to be able to stand on your toes for long periods of time. You also must be extremely flexible.
Yes. You try holding your leg directly in front of your body for 5 minutes and make it look graceful. Mean while holding a great posture. Then tell ME if you have to be strong or not.
i would say yes...and it is very painful..your toes bleed..ow!
Try standing on your toes and dancing around for an hour and tell us what you think.

And the men have to pick the women up over their heads and spin with them many times during the course of a performance. You have to be in top shape.
YES. Those guys are T-O-N-E-D! If you look at the professionals, you can see every curve of their muscles. Ballet is a lot harder than it looks.

Did you know that some football coaches require their players to take ballet lessons to build some muscles? It's true.
You need well developed calf muscles %26amp; perfect form
For one that does not do ballet...they should lay on their backs and lift their legs up and hold them there for as long as they can...then tell them to multiply that by 20 times to include all the parts of the body...they will get the picture
