i just dance a lot at home and dance at a studio....do a lot of moves that include pointing your toes...and you can also do the common stretch... it down on the floor...then point and flex...just dont point too hard....you might get a painful charlie horse
I am a ballet dancer too. I roll a tennis or rubberband ball on the bottom of feet. This can also prevent injuries.

hey!!!maybe the song UNFAITHFUL by Rihanna ....in the beginng it plays a piano but then it drops a beat listen to it!!!
A lyrical dance and song would be ideal for you (which combines the two). These are some great lyrical dance songs.

Every Breath You Take - The Police

For Reasons Unknown - The Killers

The Scientist - Coldplay (they have a lot of good songs that are perfect for this)

Most anything by Within Temptation

If you want something more for a ballet solo or duet, I would suggest Angels by Within Temptation. It's hard to incorporate what is typically a classical dance with what is typically a freestyle dance, but I'm sure you guys will be great. Good luck!
There are things known loosely as "rock ballets" -- or ballet to rock/popular music. I've trained to rock and pop music in the past. Also you may want to check out rock instrumental groups like maybe the Trans Siberian Orchestra. I know they have some good renditions of Beethoven and Mozart, among others. Check them out.

That depends on your ability and desire to dance. But one hour a day isn't enough of practice time...especially for two different styles of dancing. You should put in at least two hours daily for each dance style (4 hours total).

Good luck!

Well, it all depends on if you were born with style and rhythm. But, yes, with enough work i'm sure you can catch up. It's lots of fun, even if you're not the best :-D
depending on how much you ant to be great,I wondered the smae thing when I started Gymnastics, and now im competing. You never know, but never overwork yourself and keep your eyes on the goal.If you get bored, think of the end result.
If you have the time and heart to practice both i don t see why not. Exercises are good for body, health and mind.
You would be so good, you'll be a dancer when you don't even expect it!

Does anyone know the actual story of the ballet Rodeo by Aaron Copland?

Copland wrote Rodeo (1942) for Agnes de Mille, and it proved to be the choreographer's most enduring success. The scenario tells the story of a young woman, accomplished in all the skills of a cowpoke, who hopes to attract the attentions of the head wrangler on a ranch. In a decidedly pre-feminist resolution, he is unimpressed by her skill but succumbs to her charms when she trades her cowboy duds for a dress and shows a more "womanly" side at the rodeo dance.

Of course not! Ignore the uncultured swines that have a problem with it and DANCE ON. Men who do ballet are the finest of men, they have so much talent. Many dancers I know are men and have gone so far in life. Keep with it and never quit!

Do they watch those others doing the other crap they call dancing? Tell them to stick it in their ear.
No Way. You go for it and you do what you love and are passionate about. Just think, you get a rockin' solid hard body and get to work with some of the most beautiful women in the world. It sounds like to me that they are jealous. Good luck. :O)
mmm could be sexy , nice tight leotard s
Are you kidding?? There are many, many male ballet dancers out there-- and ballet dancers are strong athletes-- it's very demanding. You go!!
There's nothing wrong with it %26amp; many things are right. Strength, flex training, style %26amp; smooth grace, discipline and superb work ethics just to name a few.

Those people that have a problem with you dancing need to educate themselves.
no...but I think I pay more attention to other things and not so much the ballet.

Do you think they sell bun nets for ballet at walgreens or fred meyers?(not hair nets)!?

You'll probably have to visit to see if they carry hair nets. Remember, unless you are looking specifically for them to be small, all you have to do is keep wrapping it around your hair to make it fit your bun. There's no point in paying extra for a 'ballet' hair net. Just buy a regular one and keep wrapping it around, kinda like a ponytail holder.

And you probably also didn't need to ask this question 5 times. You lose points each time you ask a question, and you also violate the guidelines by asking the same or similar questions over and over - just don't want you get in trouble. : )

I'm sixteen years old and wanna start ballet can i still become an accomplished dancer?

As the mother of a dance major who has a partial scholarship, I'd like to amend that bit of what Joachin said. All of the college dance programs that I know (and I know quite a lot) have very limited funds for awarding scholarships. Of the few that offer full scholarships, they almost always go to guys, first, and then to girls who are otherwise already ready to become professional dancers. This way, the program gets a return on their "investment" because both the guys and those particular girls will have much better chances of landing dance jobs after graduation and will thus boost the program's reputation, as though they were instrumental in helping them along the way.

Most of the other scholarship amounts I've seen range from $1,000 to $10,000 a year (where the tuition ranges accordingly, so figure that the $10K would only cover about 1/3 of tuition) and those awards go to advanced level dancers. I just never heard of a student [edit: FEMALE student] starting dance at 16 years old and being able to get a scholarship. Sorry. Sure, you can find a college dance program that will accept you, but please don't get your hopes up that you're going to qualify for a scholarship.

Otherwise, I agree with Joachin: it depends on what you mean by "accomplished." While you can't become professional in ballet at your age, you can still become professional in other styles by building on a strong foundation in ballet and you can also aim for dancing with civic/ regional (amateur) ballet companies.

yes. if you really work hard at it, and are a good dancer, smooth on your feet, then ofcourse!

good luck!

I'm sixteen years old and wanna start ballet can i still become an accomplished dancer?performing arts opera theater

Well you have to work hard. And I mean really hard!. And it is going to be toff, and you are going to take classes many times a week, but if you truly agree with this, then go for it. And anyway, ballet is really very wonderful and enjoyable, so just enjoy it! :)'

Good luck with your future! :D
it depends what you mean by accomplished, will you be good enough to go professional-probably not. I suppose you can be good enough for an amateur. I would encourage you to focus on another dance form. Many people start modern later in life (me, at the age of 19-now 23) or jazz. Sorry-Ballet is probably out of your league
To become a professional, you will need to basically commit your life to it. Don't go to just any ballet teacher, make sure your teacher REALLY takes it seriously, if this is what you want to do. It is amazingly fun, but I must warn you, it kills your feet, when I come home from lessons, my feet and legs ache so bad. But, I'm not going to quite because of it. You have to be graceful, have poise, and give your heart.

Wish you the best!
If by accomplished you mean good enough to be a professional ballerina - no, sorry. I'd ignore those who tell you that you can do anything if you work hard enough....it just isn't so. 99% of professional female dancers are well on their way by age 16. That being said though - You can possibly get good enough to get a dance scholarship for college - though most of the $$ goes to guys. You will need jazz and modern classes in addition to 10-15 hours a week on your feet with classes from a good teacher and a good dance school. You will need determination and iron discipline to even have a chance at becoming accomplished. You can have a career in dance through a degree in choreography or education even if you don't make through dance performance - in fact, most female dancers are done within 10 years while the choreographers and teachers are not limited by age at all. Remember a good diet, get good grades, and try to have a life outside dance. I wish you the best of luck.
Hello, Lium. I'm almost your age and I have the same dream - to become a dancer, just like you!

Of course, i had to give up the dream of being a prima ballerina, I can't start classes until January (which sucks) and so I've been using this time to prepare myself to push (and i mean HARD) to achieve getting en pointe by college. As much as I hate telling myself "It can't happen", sometimes you just have to believe it. Of course, this does not mean that all dance is a dream only fitting for the average five-year-old, there are so many dances out there!

With Ballet, you have to have a ENORMOUS amount of stregnth and flexibility. You'd have to be able to hold your leg waay high, straight, and with a pointed, while BALANCING on a piece of WOOD about HALF the size of a chalkboard eraser. Sounds challenging, and I find challenge appealing.

Think about what is "accomplished" to you. It took me a while to learn what my taking of "accomplished" was. After study of the art of Ballet and other dance, i decided that my dream was to be on the Corp De Ballet of a theater in my town. "Accomplished" is what you make it. I would also like to do some Tap and Jazz shows. I've been in tap for a good 5 years, but I've never done Jazz, it will be new to me.

But, like others have said, don't give up! Hell, i'm not givin' up (even though i kinda said i did.... let's keep this between just us ok?). Stretch DAILY, have DETERMINATION, and eat RIGHT (DDR lol).

Being thin is a requirement for ballet, but not for all dance. Do some research before you put your heart into it. Find which dance is best for you! There's a lot to pick from. :)

Jenine r_s, yer a mother of a dance major???? Why didn't you tell me that when you answered my other questions... If I have known that i would have taken yer answers more seriously. :/
well it's too late to become famous, but it's never too late to start dancing.

Does Hip hop abs work or yoga booty ballet or Tie Bo?

i am 14 years old but I am 5 feet 9 or higher.I haven't measure my self in a year and i put on weight and have love handles.I was just wondering what would help me lose weight at have a nice flat stomach.

Actually all three are quite good. It would really depend on how hard you wanted to work out.

Taebo is the toughest and will give you results the fastest. But if you have not exercised in a while it may be too extreme.

Both hip hop abs and yoga booty ballet are both middle weights with hip hop abs being much more fun.

You probably be best off with hip hop abs.

Did you know that many libraries now carry exercise dvd's that you can check out for free. Why not look and see if your local library carries them then you can could try out a bunch.

have u called jenny yet?
the best thing to do is jump rope, run, do pushups, and ab crunches. also diet. eat no beef or pork. only fish and chicken. you dont need to buy any type of tape to loose weight.
crunches help a lot!
i personally have done tae bo boot camp abs (part of the boot camp series) and it works really well if you do it like five times a week.
hip hop is good, yoga is good and tae bo is good also very good fat burning cardio.. but you also need to workout out your abs to make them stronger.
hip hop abs is a good core workout and is pretty fun its helped me lose my love handles and is actually an ab workout without sit-ups (wont give you a six pack but is great for losing weight)

Depends on how seriously it is broken.

A fracture needs less time, about one to two months maybe, if you are pretty young.

If completely broke, guess you got to ask the orthodontics medic staffs.

My best advise is never ever try to exert any force on the fractured leg least it will dislocate and joined, making a perfect healing impossible.

A complete rest on the injured leg and take more calcium tablets.

How does Indian Dance differ from the Western Ballet?

one is trying to create rain, and one is trying to make everyone gay cowboys

How does Indian Dance differ from the Western Ballet?shows

Indian dance does not have an individual status as north, east, south and west -Indians have the own individual status as its own - say Manipuri, Kuchipudi, Mohiniyattam, Bharatnatyam, Kathakali, and s on in and surrounding the whole group of cultures of Indian - Western look is merely different and they want each one as Indian. Ballet is a part of Indian dance forms born from the past, but, did not get the encouragement. This can be more clear on a comparison of western music and indian music. What we call as western is European and what they call as Indian is those spread from South India. The main difference is in the way of enjoyment otherwise, all those western arts are very simple for ordinary folk, but Indian arts - all, can not enjoyable for ordinary folk, but must have the knowledge of enjoyment, especially the meaning of 'mudras' and 'face expressions' - A cinema camera show the close-up face and it is simple to see but a dance or stage arts - whole physical parts would join the face expression and low eye-sight will not hinder the enjoyment. Even back-ground songs, to a great extent, is not required for those who know of the art. Once education on arts were a part of Indian cultural life, which is not now.

How does Indian Dance differ from the Western Ballet?comedy show opera theater

all our culture, not even dance but everything differ from western dance. We are imetating them in all it is bad
The Western ballet is based on a two or three beat cycle while the Indian dance is based on the concept of "Taal." The "Taal" is a rhythmic cycle of definite beats of 8, 10, 12, etc. Costumes and jewelry hold significant importance in this Indian art form. This is not so in the Western dance. Indian dances can be performed solo which is not the case with ballet. Another interesting difference is the absence of any footwear on an Indian classical dancer's feet, since we believe the dance is an offering of obeisance to God and not merely a form of entertainment. It is the happiness of the soul.
Well, the placement of the body is completely different, because even jazz and modern are all based on classical ballet in which you keep that centre and you feel like you have a line running through your whole body. In Indian dance, your hips come out and it's all pretty different. The emphasis in Western is on the body and the forms you're making. In Indian dance, it's really more personal, dramatical, expressive, emotional and each pose contains a meaning.

Does anyone know what the vagonova method (in ballet) is?

The Vaganova method is a method of teaching classical ballet that was founded by Agrippina Vaganova and developed into an exact science by her pedagogical pupil for over 30 years, Vera Kostrovitskaya and countless other teachers in the decades following Vaganova's death in 1951. Therefore, it is really a misnomer to call it that, as she meant for it to be called the teaching of classical dance. It is in the mistranslation of the title of her book, "Basic Principles of Russian Classical Dance" that it is implied that it is her method. She actually titled her book: "The Foundation for Dance." It is combination of the finest of the esthetics and physical results of strength, from French, Danish, and Italian schools, the method has produced many of the world's best dancers and continues to do so today. Vaganova is known for founding the Soviet System of Ballet Education, but her and Kostrovitskaya's teaching method has developed into the applied laws of physics and the core of the teaching does not need to be constantly revised and modified, as other ways of teaching that are not scientific. The method is still used worldwide.

The method demands precision in instruction, including how to teach, when to teach, how much of each exercise to give and for how long and when to change forms. Its results in addition to sound technique are a strong lower back, plasticity of the arms and the exact amount of strength, flexibility and endurance in the muscle needed to execute one of the most difficult movements known to ballet - that of the classical pas de deux. It is still widely in use, being the most common ballet teaching method in Russia and parts of Europe. It is also popular in North America and other parts in the world.

What besides a pirouette, are spins called in ballet?

I LOVE, to watch dancers do spins and I'm amazed by how, they can keep from falling over, or getting dizzy. Could you please, give me the term for each and, it's definition, including a pirouette? Also, what is a burrey or berrey? Is it the one where the female dancer spins on one foot followed by the other followed by the other on point?

I know, I'm asking a bunch of questions here but, how am I gonna know, if I don't take the chance to ask, right? Right! Thanks!!

What besides a pirouette, are spins called in ballet?mr messed up

ok. so to answer your question about the burree first it is not a turn it is a series of quick, little steps on releve or poine. the different types of turns and their definitions are:

1) Chanies: a series of rapid turns on the points or demi-pointes done in a straight line or in a circle

2)Fouette: Whipped. A term applied to a whipping movement. The movement may be a short whipped movement of the raised foot as it passes rapidly in front of or behind the supporting foot or the sharp whipping around of the body from one direction to another

3)Pirouette: Whirl or spin. A complete turn of the body on one foot, on point or demi-pointe

4)Pique turns: Pricked, pricking. Executed by stepping directly on the point or demi-pointe of the working foot in any desired direction or position with the other foot raised in passe

5)Tour: turn in the air with legs held tightly together

there are many more turns like tour jetes and more

websites and books and even movies can help you eith our other ballet questions. i can always help you as well.

Many, many, many difrent kinds of turns. Ballet is so in depth there is a diffrent name for every little movement you do diffrently in your turns.

A burrey(i also dont know the spelling) Is when you stand on point with your feet in fifth and pick up your feet very fast taking very tiny steps.
A chanez. Their is a lot of diferent words and names to describe, Go to www. balletdictionnarry.ca
lets see...theres pirouettes, fouettes, pique turns, Cha?n茅s...and a couple more that i cant think of right now.

heres a link to a ballet dictionary...it has a description of the step and a video of ABT dancers doing each of the steps

no...bourr茅es aren't spins. they're like tiny steps that you take when you're on pointe...they dont have it in the link that i gave you so...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qnqcp22Og...

she does them starting from about 1:10

they can also travel more, but they can be done in place like that too
I believe I know what you are talking about. You may be referring to a pique turn, which means to prick, or pick of the foot quickly. It is very similar to a pirouette, except that it travels. If you are doing a pique to the right, for example, you would transfer your weight onto your right leg, pick up the left into retire (where one leg is up with the foot resting near the knee of the opposite leg), and turn towards your right shoulder.

A bourre is where you stand in fifth position souse (one foot in front of the other very close together and up on your toes) and you move by quickly making little steps in one direction, without your feet leaving this position.

A chanei turn is similar to the pique except that both feet are working and neither goes to retire.

A pirouette involves transfering your weight to the supporting leg and using the momentum of your working leg traveling to retire and your arm movements to create a turn on one leg.

A foutte is multiple pirouttes propelled by the working leg which travels from retire to an extension (straightening of the leg) and back to retire to complete another turn.

The reason that dancers do multiple turns without getting dizzy is because they "spot". (Something the early Russian ballerinas were very protective of this secret getting out) Spotting is concentrating the eyes on one point (a poster, a light, etc.) that they keep their eyes on when turing and then quickly whip their head to the same spot.

The reason they do not fall over is becuase they tighten specific abdominal muscles, "push over" with their knee and ankle joints, and "pull up" by legthening their upper body and keeping the weight frm being solely on their foot. (This is also why dancers may perform or rehearse en pointe for several hours with minimal discomfort.)

These are only a few of the turns used, and there are many variations on these too.

I hope I helped you better understand the world of ballet. If you are interested, try a class just for fun!
another way to call a spin in dance is chene (chiene like dog in frence but just add an eh at the end)
dancers dont spin.. they turn.
shanae turnss, pentil turns

Don't. I'd totally wear the flats---but without socks. Hey, gotta suffer a bit for fashion eh? In the snow maybe I'd throw some opaque knee highs on -- not sock material, but opaque tights material---in the same color as the shoe. But that's about it. You of course can wear them in Winter (contrary to what another person said) they are selling them EVERYWHERE this season. What other kind of shoe would you wear with skinny pants/jeans for day? You can't wear boots every day....

Im 18 am I too old to start ballet lessons?

and does anybody know where can do begginer adult lessons?

Im 18 am I too old to start ballet lessons?playhouse

Absolutely not. I think you will have an advantage over many who take ballet lessons as a child. This is something you really want to do, so you will work harder at it than a child who is just taking classes because her parents signed her up or her friend is taking classes. Many more adults are taking up dancing as a form of exercise too. Google dance studios in your area or check the yellow pages. I am sure you will have no trouble finding an adult beginner class.

Good luck to you,

Channa

Im 18 am I too old to start ballet lessons?plays opera theater

you're never too old to start something new. look in the yellow pages for dance studios or if they have classes at the YMCA.
No, you are never too old to start doing something you love. Look at the local gym or "Y" or for dance studios to teach adult ballet. Enjoy and keep learning.

That said, yes, you are too old to be an "en pointe" ballerina. You should start at about 6 years old in ballet-even younger -to grow up with extremely strong feet and legs. Otherwise you will damage your feet and legs dancing on tippy-toe for very long.

Go for it!
No, I started when I was 18 and I'm still dancing!

I took my beginner classes in college sort of as a PE class. I think that's a good start for you because you'll meet other people your age. If not, usually local studios have adult beginner classes. Check your yellow pages.
Hi , As per my knowledge age does'nt matter for learning dance. One should need the urge to learn it. If you really interested to do something just step into actions. Your body and age will co-operate with you.

Can I wear socks with slip on flats/ballet shoes?

I've still been wearing all my flats with bare feet but now that it's getting colder out, I was wondering if they'd be ok with socks? One of the pairs i have is a loafer style with a mary jane buckle and I have another that's also a loafer style, but both have a lot of skin exposed before the toe area. The others are just those cheap ones you can get anywhere.

Can I wear socks with slip on flats/ballet shoes?performing show

Get those stocking that they have at shoe places, you know the ones that you put on when your trying on shoes when you don't have socks on. They just go over your feet and arent that noticable.

Can I wear socks with slip on flats/ballet shoes?opera score opera theater

I think it'd be okay. Set a statement. Make them look good! :D
Socks %26amp; leg warmers are a good look :D

But if you just wana wear socks, go for it ^_^
I have seen that done.
It doesnt look that good.

But if you do do it, dont wear white socks because that looks stupid.
no you cant wear socks on fsats or ballet shoes.ballet shoes are very bad looking with socks
No way ! Wearing socks with pumps is a big no ! For the leg warmers , you can consider it but DO NOT put socks with the pumps .. Please ! ^^
I don't think they'd look very good with socks but they do look adorable with leggings.

Does anyone know how to spray paint point ballet shoes?

I just spray painted my students pointe shoes black (and ribbons) - the ribbons came out a little crunchy! The shoes look great though! I used regular spray paint, let it dry, then went back over and used a clear coat spray paint so that the black won't come off on their feet...

Good luck!

Does anyone know how to spray paint point ballet shoes?comedy show

I'm guessing you just spray it...however, we just colored ours with sharpie. Works really well!

Does anyone know how to spray paint point ballet shoes?greek theater opera theater

As your pointe shoes are covered with fabric, spray paint may not be your best choice. I would try a fabric dye. Follow the directions on the package, and let your shoes dry thoroughly. Good luck!
I'd recommend a fabric dye for better results, although I did spray paint a pair of satin heels emerald green for a play once and had no problems. I just put them out in my yard, and stuffed the insides that I didn't want painted with newspaper then I went to work, when I was done I sat them out on a table to dry. Just make sure to evenly coat them.
I wouldn't spray paint as it may crack and peel off the satin, especially with movement. I would recommend using Rit dye - you can find it almost anywhere - Walmart, grocery stores, etc.
i always use regular joe schmoe spray paint. hang them in your garage so they can turn and the paint will lay evenly and you wont get it alk over you. the ribbons might get a little stiff, so if youre spraying a new pair, id just use black ribbon. i like spray paint because it never cracks, peels, or shrinks your shoe
You can spray the shoes if you're in a jam, but they'll turn out flaky and the color probably won't last long. (The paint will mess up your tights, too, so you'll want to wear an old pair.) Don't use RIT dye, as that involves soaking the shoes, and the water will obviously destroy them.

However, most ballet shops will dye pointe shoes for you, and it's not too expensive. That's your best bet.
Spray the shoes then wipe off the excess liquid. If the shoes get too wet, it will warp the shoe. You should spray from 6 inches away.

Let the shoes dry before you do another coat.

Good luck.
Actually I just spray painted mine today! However I did not use a regular spray paint. I used the spray paint that is used on flowers. The maker was Design Master and can be found at Joann fabrics. I found it with the other spray paints and their will be flowers on the can. The shoes only needed one coat and looked beautiful. Hope this helps!

Is it too late for me to start ballet?

I'm 15 years old, and I definately do NOT want to be a professional dancer or anything like that. But I kinda wanted to start dancing for fun or something, and I wanted to know how much of an idiot I would look like if i joined a class. I suck at dancing, but I really want to learn. I don't know what kind of classes to sign up for either. So ya, I'm pretty much lost. But I really want to try it!

Is it too late for me to start ballet?say yes

No! It's never too late! I started ballet when I was 18 and I danced with little kids, which may sound embarassing, but it was one of the best times of my life. I learned to laugh at myself. Sure, you may not be as great as a pro, and you may never make it pro, but you might on the other hand. I had many teachers tell me that I advanced very quickly and was almost good enough to be in a corps de ballet, which is a fancy word for the background dancers to a prima ballerina. (And that's pretty good for only dancing 3 years! I was shocked!)

Then I went to a competition and won 2nd place, which was a total surprise. So don't think you're too old to start! I say go for it girl! And go in with confidence!

Good luck!

Oh, and by the way, it is painful if you do it right, but just take it slow and don't try to stretch yourself farther than you are comfortable. Pointe is what hurts! No matter how long I did it, it hurt every time, but the rewards are so amazing and the feeling of accomplishment is great, so it's worth it!

Is it too late for me to start ballet?palace theatre opera theater

Ballet is very painful...be prepared fot it. I quit at age 5 and took martial arts instead.
Well if you're not considering going pro, it's definitely not too late. Look for classes offered in your city at your community center or at the local YMCA. There are usually great classes for beginners there.

good luck!

Mel
No, not too late at all. There are beginner adult ballet classes offered by many studios. You could go to one of those. You won't look out of place or unusual in any way, because all the students would be adults of all ages who decided to do it for fun or fitness.
Its never to late to start anything... you should try it and even if you arent good at least you can tell people you tired it instead of always wondering how it would be to take ballet... do it!!
No, ur not too old, Although I quit young,... but for fun, join!!!
THE FIRST ANSWER IS SOOOO COMPLETELY WRONG. it is not in any way painful. i started when i was 5 and i quit in like 3rd grade. not because i didn't like it, but because i didn't like my instructer (she was mean).
You are not too young - but do not day-dream on . . your bones and muscles must go through tremendously strenuous training.

So will your mind, if the the two physical aspect above are not as quick to respond, if you'd been younger : 5, 7 years old.

So go do it Now.

Your ambitions and your talents, inclinations are a'wasting!

Just do it, Kiddo, for whatever your pleasure and seriousness are in this!

The clock ticks a lot quicker than you, imagine, dear!
It's never too late to start dancing!! I'm 15 going on 16 but if you want to do anything no matter if it's your profession or not, then go for it. You never know, u might just like it enough to perfect and elevate it. 75% percent of people don't make it big in life due to staying in their "comfort zone", so try it because u never know what'll happen. :-)
never too late to start ballet
go ahead and try ballet!!!!!!! it's not too late
It is never too late and you wouldn't look like an idiot. My dad started taking ballet classes when he was in his late fifties. You would probably be more comfortable to in a beginner adult class. Don't take long classes since you are just starting.
Of course you're not too young I haven't danced til I was FIVE!!! I am a few years younger than you and I am going to go back so if I am only a few years younger you can definently still do it.
i don't think so it depend on where you go :)
Of course it's not too late! It's never too late to start dancing. I would call a local dance studio and ask about beginner teen classes or even adult classes. If you joined a beginner class all the other students would be in the same boat as you are. If you wanted to do a jazz class, then I would maybe try a ballet class too, since ballet will help you with jazz. Have fun dancing!

Are there any dance studios that have adult ballet classes in south Jersey or Philadelphia?

I live in the Deptford, NJ area and I don't want to have to drive too far, especially in winter when it snows. I am 27 and would like to be in a class with other adults. I also want to advance to pointe eventually so it's important that the school offers this as well. Any info is appreciated.

The Koresh School of Dance in Philly is really great! I've never personally taken classes there yet, but I plan to, and I know someone who has. Because they have a dance company and not just a school, their dancing is very serious, but they have adult beginner classes and don't expect you to be amazing at what you do; they know you're learning and they work with you. Also, the classes are a good price!

What is the technical term for a male ballet dancer?

Hi. I think I can answer your questions with some authority as I have been a professional ballet daner for many years and am now a choreographer and Artistic Director of a company in Texas. All of the answers posted here (so-far) are correct in some respects. To people who are unfamilier with ballet terms, I say that I am a "male ballet daner." When in rehearsals or class, I am a "Danseur" (this is the most accepted term for a male ballet dancer in the ballet world today). Lastly, there is a counter-part for the feminine term Ballerina -- the italian for Male Dancer is Ballerino. This is a VERY arcane term and NO ONE uses it anymore. When I was dancing in Tuscany a few years ago I was told that no one liked the way the word sounded so everyone in Europe and America simply uses the French term Danseur. I sincerely hope this helps. Have a great day!

What is the most compelling/interesting thing about ballet to you?

I love that you can express yourself through it. In response to Natalia, ballet's specific rules and limitations make it more challenging, and most dancers would tell you they love that challenge. You can easily express yourself through ballet, your facial expression, the way you hold your head, how graceful you make it look, all of that and more allows you to express yourself. In short, ballet rocks!! =)

The Pointe Shoes and the amazing tutu's (I wish that it was normal to wear them everyday lol)

They way that Ballerinas perform with so much energy, even when its a Three Act Ballet.

The list can go on :)
nothing. ballet is boring. i dont need somebody telling me the specific way to move and hold my body when i dance. how can u convey and emotion when somebody is telling u how to dance? and then tell u that the way u are dancing is wrong?
The amount of discipline, control, structure the dancers carry but they also bring a great amount grace and fluidity. When a dancer is lost in the moment of dance, it's so beautiful because you can physically see someone lose themself in their ideal and dance.
The muscles you need to actually perform ballet moves and of course the way it looks so simple.
i'm not a ballerina but i do dance and at our recitals i get to see the ballet dances. i'm not a big fan of super slow dancing like ballet but it's really pretty and and the cotumes are pretty too. point is really cool as well. honestly i don't think i'd like ballet that much because it seems very slow and strict but thats just me. however, i don't mind watching it once in a while.
How absolutely beautiful it is, the incredible yet satisfying challenge, how we can push our bodies to do such things, how most people scoff at it and they wouldn't be able to last in a beginner class...

What does "dancing for a company" mean in ballet?

Everybody's saying that ballerinas have to "dance in/for a company".. what's a "company" in dance?

Is it kinda like if you work a certain store you wear a lot of that store's clothing? Or is like a theater that you get assigned to dance for.. kinda like an opera star only sings at one opera house? I've been hearing it a lot and I'm not sure what the whole "dance for a company" thing is all about. I know... this is probably a very stupid question, but i'm quite new in the world of dance.

What does "dancing for a company" mean in ballet?performing arts center

Every ballerina is associated with a company, like the Houston Ballet, or the New York Ballet, etc etc. That is what a company is. So, to be a professional ballerina, a company (let's say the Houston ballet) holds auditions and picks the best ballerinas to perform for them. There are many types of companies, some are huge, others are smaller, less well known.

What does "dancing for a company" mean in ballet?sunshine opera theater

It is probably an agency or something like that

Maybe like how actors have a specific company they work for.
Ballet business are called Companies, so if you dance for them you are an employee. Unless it is a non paying one, then you are a volunteer dancer.
it means you have ajob no matter what ballet production they're performing. kind of like an actor having a contract with a movie studio

your not old ur still young. Do whatever u want, it's ur body anyway! :)
i started ballet when i was 17 but you're definitely not too old to start you'll be fine :-)
GO FOR IT !!!!! Sweetie, you only get one life, so live it to the fullest. If you want to study ballet, then study ballet and don't let anyone.... ANYONE ....... discourage you. You are your own person and, despite what they tell you, you don't have to live your life to please anyone else. You may or may not be able to be a "career" ballet dancer, but I bet you could find a local dance studio that puts on performances. At the very least you can fulfill your own dream, even if you don't reach the ballet "prima donna" status that so many little girls dream of. Love and luck--MissDelanne
hey it's never too late to do something u wanna do. plus, u'll probably learn really quick cause ur so athletic already! GOOD LUCK!
no,if you love what you do its not to late,

I became the in house dancer for house music with paul Oakenfold ,Danny teneglia and Tim sheridan as my DJs ,

that is I went into a crowd of 2000 people and warmed up the dance floors, at home in leicester square, the ministry of sound, club space in Ibiza pacha, the phoenix in manchester, at the age 44

,I had the movement and the right interpretation for the ambience the DJs wanted to create on the night;

there were no competitors, age has nothing to do with it, if you have it inside of you,its all your and no one can take it away so go for it!
First, consult any person who is specializing in bone structure and ask him if you are still capable of doing ballet. You should always remember that there is always room for learning. Don't let anyone stop you to conquer the world.
do it as a hobby, that's what I'm doing with art since my parents won't send me off to art college...*sigh*
It's never too late to do anything! Don't let someone stop you from doing something you love. It's your life and if you like dancing, go dance. Who cares if your not the average 5 year old in a pink tutu? Think of all the women who want to do the same thing as you? I think you should go for because you will be happy in the end. Besides think of the instructor- wouldn't you find it easier to teach a 24 year old rather than a younger child? I think so! Good luck!!!
any one can learn ballet. but u cant go pro now. i'll tell ya that! if ure still flexi then that'd b really good 4 a dancer. but dont give up ure job and drop collage 4 dance. keep ure job, stay in collage, but take some night classes 4 ballet. if u give ure all into it u can do it, but personaly, i dont think there is a point of going pro.
You aren't old, your pretty young. And your never too young or too old to start dance. It just takes time. And your parents don't have much control over you know because your grown. Just take an adult class if you really want to start dance! it's a great idea try it. And when(if you do) start taking the classes, I'm sure you'll be great at it with your experience.
i dun think dancing will limit people's age..ure just being humble..im 14..and i dun see why u shuldnt learn dancing of different genre...
No your not too old to start ballet or any kind of dance style. My mum is 54 and has been doing ballet for 2 years now. She started out with not much grace or co-ordination but she's been practising heaps and has been improving heaps. Find a school that is perfect for you and just go for it. Don't hold back.

try using imagery. there was a a really good article in the April/May 2007 Pointe issue. using imagery is a process where you mentally go through a movement. to get your developpe higher, stand in 5th position. then, without actually moving, mentally go through the whole developpe. try to have as much detail as you can as you "watch" the developpe. then try the same thing, only this time "see" your leg going a little higher. then do it one more time "seeing" your leg even a little higher than before. do this 4 or 5 times, and then try the developpe for real. try to feel all the details you "saw" before.

another thing you have to do is, from passe, lift your knee as high as you can and then just straighten your leg, keeping your knee where it is. its hard at first, but it really helps

How do i get my.......please help all ballet dancers?performing arts show opera theater

well, you should lie down and have a friend take your leg (one raised one flat on ground) and press down slowly while slightly moving it to side to side about a 1/2 inch from ordinary position. Strech before like normal before you do it though.. Good luck =D)
work on your grand battements making sure you are lifting with the correct muscles (not your quads, you want to turn it out and lift from there) This will help strengthen those muscles that hold your leg up. Also if you hold your leg up with your hand get it to where you want it and then let go and try to hold it. You really need to work on holding it up, and the more you practice, you'll be able to hold it higher and higher. You just need to build your strength up to match your flexibility.

Can anyone tell me what percent of professional ballet dancers are male?home theatre

G'day Lozza,

Thank you for your question.

In the professional ranks, it is fifty per cent. In the lower ranks, men are a distinct minority.

According to an article in the New York Times (see link below) "In 2007 being the only boy 鈥?at an audition, in a class, in a recital 鈥?is still a routine experience for ballet students in the United States. Men are well represented at the highest ranks of American ballet: at New York City Ballet, for which the school is the official academy, men (many of them foreign-born) make up more than 50 percent of principals and soloists and also hold the posts of ballet master and resident choreographer. Still, at the entry level boys remain a distinct minority. Of the 544 New York-area children ages 6 through 10 who turned out for the School of American Ballet鈥檚 open auditions in May, just 65 were boys."

You sound fine to me, you may just not have much confidence.
try belly dance class it'll be a cross training and is fun good for you and it will help you get into sahap for ballet and do yoga once a week
You're not too fat! Maybe that's just the anorexia that you had talking? Don't believe it. If you're good at ballet and you like it, you can be a ballet dancer.
You have not "recovered" completely. Your mental feelings are still there, e.g. "I need to lose a lot of weight...".

Your doctor needs to evaluate your body structure, medical history and a dietitian needs to check out your eating habits. Once they do a complete examination, they can tell you if you should proceed with your training and exercises.

Please do yourself and parents a favor. Go see the doctor first. We'd like to have you around many more holidays, O.K.?
You don't sound too fat to me.
it sound like you are at the right weight, maybe a little underweight. no matter what weight you are you can do anything that you want. Don't be so hard on yourself. all you need to do is look in the mirror and tell yourself how much you love you! that is were it starts. and then do from there.
No, you sound JUST right to me.

The above answer is correct. Though, in many ballet fans eyes "Kitri" is the title role, or at least the coveted role by all female soloists. This is due to Petipa and his amazing choregraphy he gave Kitri in her solo, duet, and coda. Basil is her partner, also a coveted role by male soloists.

Okay to alternate between full and split sole ballet slippers?

Can I do this without hurting anything? I don't see why it would, but I'm just making sure. I like my full soles because they make me work harder, and my new split soles just because I love them. I want to do some classes in split soles and some classes in full soles. Is this okay?

Okay to alternate between full and split sole ballet slippers?imax theater

Full soles strengthen your feet because like you said, you have to work harder in them. Split soles look nicer on feet, but do not offer strengthening values. It would be a good idea to alternate in classes, and if you are really worried about it, you can always go and talk to your teacher.

Happy Dancing!

Okay to alternate between full and split sole ballet slippers?classical music opera theater

It won't kill you, I suggest you just stick to the split sole ballet slipper. It's mostly what all professionals use and wear. :) Switching back and forth is not good because your feet get used to the slipper, and it molds your foot. To keep things simple just grab hold on to one kind.
its OK but splitsoles are much better and comfy
it's totaly fine. y wud it matter anyways? the only part that doesnt have a sole is the arch and it won't affect the arch! trust me! i'm a dancer!
it wont hurt anything.. so i dont see why not...
i dont see why not, except for the fact that the slippers do mold to ur feet. i switched to split soles because i wasnt dancing as well in my full soles. i would never go back to full sole.
that won't do anything
thats a fabulous idea, and you have gotten the point i try to get my customers to realize daily. great job!

What age should I start my daughter in Ballet classes?

I think it's better to start them in a creative dance class at 3-4 years old, and even at 5, unless you can find a class that has no more than 15-30 minutes applied to Ballet, combined with other forms of dance. Ballet is too strict a discipline for the really young child. 6 years old is a good time for a 45 minute class, or a 30/30 minute combined class. Fun should be the goal. Strict training should wait until the child is seven or eight years old, or they may decide they do not like Ballet.

my mother started me in ballet ever sence i could walk and i liked it im just fine i made all a's never once was bad and did excellent in school musicals
whenever SHE wants to. don't make your 4 year old do it if she doesn't enjoy it.
It depends, if u want it to be like a main hobby start her early like 3-4, if u want to see if she likes it wait till' she's old enough to make a decision like that for herself 6-7. I would go with 4-5 though, that way if by the time she is 7 and she loves it she can go far and if she doesn't like it then you could just take her out. 3 is a little early (that's when I started) because it's not like you have a clue why you're doing what you're doing.
Ask her if shes interested in ballet and if she says she is then let her join a class. the number one mistake mom's make is to push their child into a class they aren't ready for or lack interest in , but on the other side of the spectrum you don't want to shield her from her interests. so like i said just ask her and if she says she wants to then great is she doesn't ask her what she would be interested in. regardless of what class she takes you'll adore the cute photos you'll get from her hobby's.
I started when I was 3 years old; I wouldn't go any younger than that. Have a talk to the dance studio that you intend for her to have classes and ask. Some studios won't take children till they are 4 years old or older.

Hope this helps :)
You should start your daughter in ballet class as early as she is able to.
hey there,

if your daughter shows an interest in ballet then maybe 4-5 is a good age.

however if she DOESNT enjoy it don't force her.

hope i helped

xx
you should put her in classes like at 3 or so to get the movement part down and then start at like 5 or so... but you shouldn't make her take ballet if she doesn't like it... but at least have her try it

Usually how many years must one be taking ballet in order to take pointe?

I'm fifteen and this is my third year dancing. I really want to learn pointe but i know it's years of training, and I just want to know how much. Because I'm probably going to continue lessons until I learn, even if I'm out of high school.

Usually how many years must one be taking ballet in order to take pointe?imax theatre

It actually depends on a lot of factors -- girls who have been dancing since they were little dance a lot longer before going on pointe, because their feet haven't stopped growing (Going on pointe before youre fully grown can REALLY mess up your bones --I cringe when I walk into a dance supply store and some 9 year old girl is getting fitted...).

You also need a lot of decation and discipline --toe is not something to be taken lightly--- which is another reason young girls have to wait so long.

A good minium would be about 5 years (of hard dancing and a lot of practice). But you should definely be able to go on pointe within 10 years at the very most.

You also need to have strong enough muscles in your legs and feet -- your best bet is to ask your dance teacher, as she/he knows what your exact expierence level is.

:)

(Plus, once you actually start doing pointe, it'll be about 2 years before you can really do much, and about 4 years before you're doing really 'fun' stuff --- even though you're older, just keep practicing, non-professionals can usually dance for quite sometime -- Ive know people who are still doing ballet in their 50's!)

Which would be the best organisation to take ballet exams with?

There are 2 main examining organisations, Royal Academy of Dancing (RAD) and Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD). Most dancing schools teach either one or both of their syllabi.

Which would be the best organisation to take ballet exams with?shows

This is going to depend on what good schools are in your area. Some areas can be predominantly RAD and some ISTD. This is often because schools are opened up by past pupils of an existing school and the new teacher will continue the method in which they were taught. It also follows that some areas shine at one type of dance over another and become known for the skill (Portsmouth is excellent at Tap! - not saying that they aren't good at other subjects but it is a known outstanding tap area!). Anyway, it depends what you want from the exams because between ISTD and RAD there is little difference - a far greater difference can be found in the quality of teacher, so contact both organisations to locate a good teacher. There are numerous other organisations like BBO, IDTA and AAD but RAD and ISTD are definitely the top two. If you were hoping to go on further in dance then it would be a good idea to see which examining board is favoured by the college of your choice (that is if you are that committed already) as many colleges only offer exams in ISTD - others only RAD. If you hunt around then you might find that both syllabii are offered at major level but to be honest, a good training in either RAD or ISTD is more than enough to get you to a very good standard.

I take the Cecchetti Ballet Exams and I've always liked them (if you're a dancer) If you're a teacher, many teachers take ISTD's

How can I get the physique of a ballet dancer without the dancing? Are there any special exercises?

Everyone above me is lying. Ballet is hard, but getting a body like a dancer isn't.

First thing you need to work on is your posture. Straight back, head and sturnum up keep your abs pulled up and tight in your body.

Pilates is a great way that a lot of ballet dancers work out.

if you want the body of a ballet dancer you will have to do ballet like exercises. but do yoga or pilates. they will get you partially there. set your goals for something else.
Without dancing ballet? Not possible.

Didn't you notice that ballerinas even walk differently, with more grace?
Are you serious? Answer is - You can't!..... and no there are no exercises to get a dancer's body short of dancing. Yours is kind of a dumb question imo - sorry
YOU CAN'T!
pilates
This is the third time I've mentioned this on here, so I feel like I'm always talking about it, but the NYC Ballet Workout will give you certain aspects of the look. I don't know if it'll make you look like a dancer or not, because the only ones I know who use it are dancers who are just using it as part of their daily exercise, but the theory seems to work and you'd be doing a lot of the more basic ballet movements. You're not going to have every quality ballet dancers have (if you want them, dance), but it might help with things like the shape of your musculature and your posture.

If you don't want to shell out the money (it's expensive if you're on a budget): basically, lots of ab work will give you a strong core, which leads to good posture. Lots of stretching will give you long muscles. Eating healthily and getting some exercise will keep the fat off.
u answered your own question...do the dancing to get the body type its that simple
Do you mean male or female? Female ballet dancers are thin to the point of it being very unhealthy. Not to mention the lack of breasts.

I don't know why you would want to look unhealthy. Just eat right, exercise normally and be healthy. Don't try to force your body into something unnatural.

Since you are an adult it's okay to join whenever you want to. But if you are think of becoming a professional dancer then it's already too late. Because you have to start from a early age from 7-10 years old for your body to train. Your body will gain muscles and will lengthen, ballet helps you have really good posture but since your bones are permenent you will have to try hard to keep this posture stay in place. But I reccoment you doing ballet more than once a week if you want these things to happen easier and faster. The other benefits are confidence, and stretching your muscles.
SOUNDS GREAT! good for trying ballet! make sure u don't have any leg injuries or it will cause tendonitus!
You WILL become somewhat more toned, slightly stronger and your posture will radically improve. Don't expect too much with just one class/week though. Two classes/week would be better, but I am sure you have time constraints etc. BTW...Good for you! Ballet is a great way to develop fitness, poise, grace and a better frame of mind. All the things that Ms. Snowflake said... It helped me with depression.
