Can anyone tell me what percent of professional ballet dancers are male?

A Source would be great too. I dont care if they gay or straight, just how many there are. Thanks!!

In the professional ranks, it is fifty per cent. In the lower ranks, men are a distinct minority.



According to an article in the New York Times (see link below) "In 2007 being the only boy 鈥?at an audition, in a class, in a recital 鈥?is still a routine experience for ballet students in the United States. Men are well represented at the highest ranks of American ballet: at New York City Ballet, for which the school is the official academy, men (many of them foreign-born) make up more than 50 percent of principals and soloists and also hold the posts of ballet master and resident choreographer. Still, at the entry level boys remain a distinct minority. Of the 544 New York-area children ages 6 through 10 who turned out for the School of American Ballet鈥檚 open auditions in May, just 65 were boys."
