i just dance a lot at home and dance at a studio....do a lot of moves that include pointing your toes...and you can also do the common stretch... it down on the floor...then point and flex...just dont point too hard....you might get a painful charlie horse

If you want something more for a ballet solo or duet, I would suggest Angels by Within Temptation. It's hard to incorporate what is typically a classical dance with what is typically a freestyle dance, but I'm sure you guys will be great. Good luck!
There are things known loosely as "rock ballets" -- or ballet to rock/popular music. I've trained to rock and pop music in the past. Also you may want to check out rock instrumental groups like maybe the Trans Siberian Orchestra. I know they have some good renditions of Beethoven and Mozart, among others. Check them out.

That depends on your ability and desire to dance. But one hour a day isn't enough of practice time...especially for two different styles of dancing. You should put in at least two hours daily for each dance style (4 hours total).

You'll probably have to visit to see if they carry hair nets. Remember, unless you are looking specifically for them to be small, all you have to do is keep wrapping it around your hair to make it fit your bun. There's no point in paying extra for a 'ballet' hair net. Just buy a regular one and keep wrapping it around, kinda like a ponytail holder.

And you probably also didn't need to ask this question 5 times. You lose points each time you ask a question, and you also violate the guidelines by asking the same or similar questions over and over - just don't want you get in trouble. : )

they have very weird hair nets there that kind of work for buns. I had a dance emergency at a competition once and I was forced to go get one. It didnt work as well as a bun one, but it worked pretty well. just wrap it around a bunch like you do sometimes w/ a bun net

As the mother of a dance major who has a partial scholarship, I'd like to amend that bit of what Joachin said. All of the college dance programs that I know (and I know quite a lot) have very limited funds for awarding scholarships. Of the few that offer full scholarships, they almost always go to guys, first, and then to girls who are otherwise already ready to become professional dancers. This way, the program gets a return on their "investment" because both the guys and those particular girls will have much better chances of landing dance jobs after graduation and will thus boost the program's reputation, as though they were instrumental in helping them along the way.

Most of the other scholarship amounts I've seen range from $1,000 to $10,000 a year (where the tuition ranges accordingly, so figure that the $10K would only cover about 1/3 of tuition) and those awards go to advanced level dancers. I just never heard of a student [edit: FEMALE student] starting dance at 16 years old and being able to get a scholarship. Sorry. Sure, you can find a college dance program that will accept you, but please don't get your hopes up that you're going to qualify for a scholarship.

Otherwise, I agree with Joachin: it depends on what you mean by "accomplished." While you can't become professional in ballet at your age, you can still become professional in other styles by building on a strong foundation in ballet and you can also aim for dancing with civic/ regional (amateur) ballet companies.

it depends what you mean by accomplished, will you be good enough to go professional-probably not. I suppose you can be good enough for an amateur. I would encourage you to focus on another dance form. Many people start modern later in life (me, at the age of 19-now 23) or jazz. Sorry-Ballet is probably out of your league
To become a professional, you will need to basically commit your life to it. Don't go to just any ballet teacher, make sure your teacher REALLY takes it seriously, if this is what you want to do. It is amazingly fun, but I must warn you, it kills your feet, when I come home from lessons, my feet and legs ache so bad. But, I'm not going to quite because of it. You have to be graceful, have poise, and give your heart.

If by accomplished you mean good enough to be a professional ballerina - no, sorry. I'd ignore those who tell you that you can do anything if you work hard enough....it just isn't so. 99% of professional female dancers are well on their way by age 16. That being said though - You can possibly get good enough to get a dance scholarship for college - though most of the $$ goes to guys. You will need jazz and modern classes in addition to 10-15 hours a week on your feet with classes from a good teacher and a good dance school. You will need determination and iron discipline to even have a chance at becoming accomplished. You can have a career in dance through a degree in choreography or education even if you don't make through dance performance - in fact, most female dancers are done within 10 years while the choreographers and teachers are not limited by age at all. Remember a good diet, get good grades, and try to have a life outside dance. I wish you the best of luck.
Hello, Lium. I'm almost your age and I have the same dream - to become a dancer, just like you!

Of course, i had to give up the dream of being a prima ballerina, I can't start classes until January (which sucks) and so I've been using this time to prepare myself to push (and i mean HARD) to achieve getting en pointe by college. As much as I hate telling myself "It can't happen", sometimes you just have to believe it. Of course, this does not mean that all dance is a dream only fitting for the average five-year-old, there are so many dances out there!

With Ballet, you have to have a ENORMOUS amount of stregnth and flexibility. You'd have to be able to hold your leg waay high, straight, and with a pointed, while BALANCING on a piece of WOOD about HALF the size of a chalkboard eraser. Sounds challenging, and I find challenge appealing.

Think about what is "accomplished" to you. It took me a while to learn what my taking of "accomplished" was. After study of the art of Ballet and other dance, i decided that my dream was to be on the Corp De Ballet of a theater in my town. "Accomplished" is what you make it. I would also like to do some Tap and Jazz shows. I've been in tap for a good 5 years, but I've never done Jazz, it will be new to me.

But, like others have said, don't give up! Hell, i'm not givin' up (even though i kinda said i did.... let's keep this between just us ok?). Stretch DAILY, have DETERMINATION, and eat RIGHT (DDR lol).

Being thin is a requirement for ballet, but not for all dance. Do some research before you put your heart into it. Find which dance is best for you! There's a lot to pick from. :)

Actually all three are quite good. It would really depend on how hard you wanted to work out.

Taebo is the toughest and will give you results the fastest. But if you have not exercised in a while it may be too extreme.

Both hip hop abs and yoga booty ballet are both middle weights with hip hop abs being much more fun.

You probably be best off with hip hop abs.

Did you know that many libraries now carry exercise dvd's that you can check out for free. Why not look and see if your local library carries them then you can could try out a bunch.

the best thing to do is jump rope, run, do pushups, and ab crunches. also diet. eat no beef or pork. only fish and chicken. you dont need to buy any type of tape to loose weight.

i personally have done tae bo boot camp abs (part of the boot camp series) and it works really well if you do it like five times a week.
hip hop is good, yoga is good and tae bo is good also very good fat burning cardio.. but you also need to workout out your abs to make them stronger.
hip hop abs is a good core workout and is pretty fun its helped me lose my love handles and is actually an ab workout without sit-ups (wont give you a six pack but is great for losing weight)

Depends on how seriously it is broken.

A fracture needs less time, about one to two months maybe, if you are pretty young.

If completely broke, guess you got to ask the orthodontics medic staffs.

My best advise is never ever try to exert any force on the fractured leg least it will dislocate and joined, making a perfect healing impossible.

A complete rest on the injured leg and take more calcium tablets.

ok. so to answer your question about the burree first it is not a turn it is a series of quick,little steps on releve or poine. the different types of turns and their definitions are:

1) Chanies: a series of rapid turns on the points or demi-pointes done in a straight line or in a circle

2)Fouette: Whipped. A term applied to a whipping movement. The movement may be a short whipped movement of the raised foot as it passes rapidly in front of or behind the supporting foot or the sharp whipping around of the body from one direction to another

3)Pirouette: Whirl or spin. A complete turn of the body on one foot, on point or demi-pointe

4)Pique turns: Pricked, pricking. Executed by stepping directly on the point or demi-pointe of the working foot in any desired direction or position with the other foot raised in passe

5)Tour: turn in the air with legs held tightly together

I believe I know what you are talking about. You may be referring to a pique turn, which means to prick, or pick of the foot quickly. It is very similar to a pirouette, except that it travels. If you are doing a pique to the right, for example, you would transfer your weight onto your right leg, pick up the left into retire (where one leg is up with the foot resting near the knee of the opposite leg), and turn towards your right shoulder.

A bourre is where you stand in fifth position souse (one foot in front of the other very close together and up on your toes) and you move by quickly making little steps in one direction, without your feet leaving this position.

A chanei turn is similar to the pique except that both feet are working and neither goes to retire.

A pirouette involves transfering your weight to the supporting leg and using the momentum of your working leg traveling to retire and your arm movements to create a turn on one leg.

A foutte is multiple pirouttes propelled by the working leg which travels from retire to an extension (straightening of the leg) and back to retire to complete another turn.

The reason that dancers do multiple turns without getting dizzy is because they "spot". (Something the early Russian ballerinas were very protective of this secret getting out) Spotting is concentrating the eyes on one point (a poster, a light, etc.) that they keep their eyes on when turing and then quickly whip their head to the same spot.

The reason they do not fall over is becuase they tighten specific abdominal muscles, "push over" with their knee and ankle joints, and "pull up" by legthening their upper body and keeping the weight frm being solely on their foot. (This is also why dancers may perform or rehearse en pointe for several hours with minimal discomfort.)

These are only a few of the turns used, and there are many variations on these too.

In the snow maybe I'd throw some opaque knee highs on -- not sock material, but opaque tights material---in the same color as the shoe. But that's about it. You of course can wear them in Winter (contrary to what another person said) they are selling them EVERYWHERE this season. What other kind of shoe would you wear with skinny pants/jeans for day? You can't wear boots every day....

just wear skin colored stockings.. it looks really weird if you see socks sticking out from them.. they keep you warm enough don't worry.. that's what i do =]

The really low, no-show socks. They have them at stores like Walmart and Target in the sock section. You can also find them online. I have a pair, and I wear them with flats, and my Vans.

Well....... it is a good idea not to wear those shoes in the winter and if u do, wear like nylons or tights........

but i think ur best bet is to put away the summer shoes for the summer hun......
I don't like socks with ballet flats. It looks kinda tacky if you ask me, no offense... if you're feet get too cold to wear them without, get some cute flats that cover more of your foot or a different type of shoe. :)

Absolutely not. I think you will have an advantage over many who take ballet lessons as a child. This is something you really want to do, so you will work harder at it than a child who is just taking classes because her parents signed her up or her friend is taking classes. Many more adults are taking up dancing as a form of exercise too. Google dance studios in your area or check the yellow pages. I am sure you will have no trouble finding an adult beginner class.

you're never too old to start something new. look in the yellow pages for dance studios or if they have classes at the YMCA.
No, you are never too old to start doing something you love. Look at the local gym or "Y" or for dance studios to teach adult ballet. Enjoy and keep learning.

That said, yes, you are too old to be an "en pointe" ballerina. You should start at about 6 years old in ballet-even younger -to grow up with extremely strong feet and legs. Otherwise you will damage your feet and legs dancing on tippy-toe for very long.

I took my beginner classes in college sort of as a PE class. I think that's a good start for you because you'll meet other people your age. If not, usually local studios have adult beginner classes. Check your yellow pages.
Hi , As per my knowledge age does'nt matter for learning dance. One should need the urge to learn it. If you really interested to do something just step into actions. Your body and age will co-operate with you.
